Several years ago in Guatemala, a couple shirtless sweating guys were hanging from a fence shaking their fist at me: the lone foreigner in the crowd. And that was a good thing.

Interesting post! I'll certainly try to find out what the chant "Xe-la-ju! Xe-la-ju!" means :) You must have had quite a memorable local travel. I can imagine what it must have been like to watch tug of war having horse meat and milk.
